Jenna Haupstein visited Weyburn Comp. School to enjoy the pancake breakfast held on August 26, hosted by the SRC.

School has been in for two weeks and students have settled in to their extended school day. Fourteen minutes have been added to each day and the between period breaks have been reduced to four minutes along with the elimination of SAS to add nearly half an hour of instruction time per day. The first semester will end prior to Christmas with the students starting second semester in January and finishing on Friday, June 1. Graduation will be held on Wednesday, May 30.

Construction has begun on the new community center, art rooms, choral and band rooms and administration wing to be completed in 2013. Renovations have begun in the library therefore the students do not have access to a library until the renovations are completed in that area. After renovations are finished in the library they will continue in the science area and "B" block. Demolition of the old school, including the cafetorium, will not take place until the new addition is completed.

The SRC has a very busy September, which started off with a retreat in Regina to plan the upcoming year. Then on September 21, a few SRC members will be off to Kindersley to attend the Saskatchewan Leadership Conference for three days. The big event however is when a large delegation of staff and students will be attending the National Student Leadership Conference in Corner Brook Newfoundland from September 26 to October 1. All this is in preparation for Weyburn to host the National Conference in September 2012. At that time more than 600 students and 200 advisors from across Canada will visit our fair city for six days of seminars, workshops, guest speakers, eating and fun. As these students are billeted, please open your homes when the call goes out.

The SRC hosted a welcome pancake breakfast on August 26 and they kicked off their annual magazine campaign on September 6.

Collection of SRC activity fees have changed this year and fees collected must reflect individual activity in that particular event. That is, yearbooks are now optional and there is not a general fee for SRC activities collected from the students. Students therefore must pay a fee for each activity they are in (i.e. music, grad, sport teams, debate, etc.). These fees vary depending on the length and cost of an activity.

There will be NO general Eagle passes sold this year for admission to all activities at WCS along with discounts for fowl supper and musical. There will however be a season ticket sold for football games and volleyball and basketball tournaments for $10.

The football team has been practicing since school started and their first game was on September 3 at Darold Kot Field against Notre Dame. Soccer, volleyball, golf and cross-country teams have started as well.
