WEYBURN – Weyburn city council approved tender bids for line painting, and for unidirectional watermain flushing around the city.
The unidirectional watermain flushing program will see isolated portions of watermain flushed in one direction by closing valves and using specific hydrants.
A numbered company based in Ontario, 3319628 Canada Inc., was awarded the contract for this work at the bid price of $39,460, and the city will have the option to sign a three to five-year contract extension at the city’s discretion.
There were four bids in total for this work.
City engineer Jennifer Wilkinson said the advantage of this method of line flushing is improved cleaning of deposits on pipes, and it uses less water with a reduced impact on area residents.
Wilkinson noted that the city has used this company before for this purpose, and said it has been a couple of years since line flushing has been carried out.
For the traffic line painting work, the project was divided into three parts, to include centre line, crosswalk and lane markings; curb painting for no parking zones; and the airport taxiway and main runway line painting.
With three bids submitted, one company, Alberta Parking Lot Services, was approved for all three parts.
The first two parts was approved with a bid of $93,445, and the airport line painting had an approved bid of $17,323.
The airport user fees generated $2,681 over the budgeted amount, and this will offset the overage in the cost for the painting of $2,323. The city will have the option to extend the contract for up to three years at the city’s discretion.
• The City of Weyburn’s by-election will be held on Wednesday, May 31, with the polling station at the Credit Union Spark Centre. Voting will go from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the mini-gym on the second level.
There will be two advance polls, both at the Spark Centre, on Thursday, May 25 from 5-9 p.m., and on Saturday, May 27 from 1-7 p.m.
