Estevan Police Service (EPS) members have been engaged in several investigations and incidents over the past seven days as seasonal parties and various events have been held throughout the city.

A Dec. 9 report noted that EPS personnel were required to investigate two motor vehicle accidents, a credit card theft and fraud incident plus a domestic dispute, which was eventually resolved peacefully.
The credit card incident resulted in a 30-year-old Estevan man being charged with theft after he used the stolen card for transactions at several Estevan businesses. He appeared in court on Dec. 12.

One of the motor vehicle accidents (MVA) occurred at the intersection of 13th Avenue and Sixth Street when a westbound semi-tractor trailer collided with a southbound sport utility vehicle (SUV). The male driver of the SUV was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital suffering from undetermined injuries and the incident remains under investigation.

The second MVA happened at Kensington Avenue and Perkins Street. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene and one male driver sustained minor injuries.

A break and enter incident at an east side business on Dec. 10 attracted police attention. Entry was gained by smashing the glass in the front door. Several items were removed and the matter remains under investigation.

A 2009 Ford F-150 truck that had been stolen in Carman, Man. was located in Estevan and seized by police. The investigation into the theft is continuing.

A second stolen vehicle was recovered on the northern edge of the city on Dec. 10. This vehicle had been taken from a local business where it had been taken to have work done on it. That incident also remains under investigation.

A few days earlier, EPS members looked into an attempted theft from a vehicle, an intruder in a local business, a robbery which resulted in the arrest of a 50-year-old B.C. man, and a complaint of inappropriate text messages sent to several women.

A report of a suspected drug deal on the night of Dec. 9 did not result in any arrests but another incident led to the arrest of a 19-year-old Estevan man who was in breach of court ordered conditions. He will now appear in court in January.

A 31-year-old Arborfield man who was causing a disturbance outside a local lounge was lodged in cells after being charged. A further check revealed the man also had outstanding warrants for his arrest from Saskatoon Police Service.

A Carnduff man was also arrested and lodged in cells until sober after he was noted causing a disturbance outside a company Christmas function.

A 25-year-old Quebec man was arrested and lodged in cells after he was seen passed out in the lobby of a local hotel Dec. 9.

A 26-year-old Bienfait man was arrested on outstanding warrants and issued a 24-hour driving suspension after EPS members responded to a report of a group of men urinating in public.

An assault at a local lounge led to the arrest of a 25-year-old Estevan man and a 28-year-old Eyebrow man was arrested and charged with driving while impaired and driving while his blood-alcohol level was over .08 per cent.

Police also responded to several noisy party complaints on Dec. 9 and during the early morning hours of Dec. 10.

On the night of Dec. 10, EPS members were very busy. They issued two 24-hour licence suspensions, charged a 19-year-old for continually re-entering a lounge after he was repeatedly asked to leave, arrested a 52-year-old man for causing a disturbance and urinating in public and put a 44-year-old Glenavon man into cells for his own safety after he was seen walking on the shoulder of a highway wearing dark clothing and in an intoxicated condition. They also arrested a 28-year-old man for refusing to leave a residence after being asked to do so.

Another couple of public urinaters, a 40-year-old Moose Jaw man and a 25-year-old from Alberta, were taken into custody that same night and lodged in cells until sober.

Later that evening, EPS members arrested a 28-year-old Regina man for being in possession of a controlled substance and on outstanding warrants following a traffic stop in the central area of the city.
Several other tickets were issued that same night and police also looked into a report of a stolen van which was located a short time later.

On Dec. 11, EPS members arrested three Estevan youths who now face charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act after police made a routine traffic stop on the south side of the city. A small amount of marijuana and some drug paraphernalia were seized.

On Dec. 13, a 30-year-old man was charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08 as well as for hit-and-run. It was also noted that the man was driving while suspended and was operating an unregistered vehicle.

The hit-and-run incident had occurred earlier in the day in the 900 block of Fourth Street. Two vehicles had been struck by another with the driver fleeing the scene. The vehicle and occupants were located a short distance from the scene. The accused and female passenger were lodged in cells with the woman facing an additional charge of being intoxicated in public. They now have a Jan. 16 court date.
