Viterra Inc. has launched a North American Flood Assistance Program to provide community-based flood assistance to communities that have been affected by the 2011 spring flooding in Western Canada and the United States.Mayo Schmidt, President and Chief Executive Officer said, "We recognize that throughout much of Western Canada moisture and growing conditions are very good and could result in significant yields. However, despite the fact that the vast majority of western Canadian producers are off to a very promising start, a number of communities in Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Saskatchewan, Â鶹´«Ã½AVern Manitoba, North Dakota and the U.S. Midwest have been impacted by spring flooding. Viterra operates in hundreds of rural communities throughout North America, and we want to ensure that while we work to optimize the crop investments of farmers who are having a great season, we also commit to doing what we can to support those communities that have been affected by the recent flooding."Viterra's $100,000 North American Flood Assistance program is geared towards helping the communities in which the company is located restore infrastructure, equipment, and community services. Projects must benefit entire communities, and grant applications will be assessed on the quality of the lasting community benefit. Applications will close August 15.
