Traffic stop in Estevan leads to drug-related charges

The EPS said investigators seized illicit drugs with an estimated street value of $35,000 and $13,500 in Canadian currency.

The Estevan Police Service has announced details of a drug bust.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service has announced charges for drug-related offences.  

In a news release issued on Feb. 17, the EPS said patrol units and the Drug Intelligence Unit conducted an investigation into cocaine trafficking.

A search warrant was authorized under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act following a traffic stop involving the EPS K9 unit. A 25-year-old man from British Columbia was arrested.

The male has been charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, resisting arrest and possession of the proceeds of crime exceeding $5,000.

As a result of the search warrant, the EPS said investigators seized illicit drugs with an estimated street value of $35,000, and $13,500 in Canadian currency.

The male was remanded in custody and will make his first court appearance on Feb. 21. His name was not immediately released by the EPS.

A 41-year-old woman from Estevan was also arrested but later released without any charges.

The EPS says the public is reminded to contact the Estevan Police Service or Crime Stoppers if they have any information regarding drug trafficking.
