Traffic safety fund grants ratified for 50 communities throughout Saskatchewan

A total of 52 projects have been approved in Saskatchewan, with grants alternating from $2,320 to $57,750.听

These projects include digital speed display signs, other speed management projects, pedestrian crossing signals, school zone beacons and added streetlights.听

鈥淚t鈥檚 great to once again see so many are taking the initiative to reduce traffic collisions, injuries and fatalities in their communities,鈥 Minister Responsible for SGI Joe Hargrave said. 鈥淚鈥檓 pleased that the Traffic Safety Fund is able to help them reach their goals. I want to congratulate the successful applicants and encourage others to apply for these grants.听Safer roads benefit everyone in our province,鈥 the minister continued.听

Provincial Traffic Safety Fund grants are presented twice annually, using a percentage of the earnings taken from photo speed enforcement (PSE).听

With the latest sequence of grants, there鈥檚 been total of 127 projects awarded totalling more than $1.5 million in funding in correspondence to government figures.听

The PSE Committee will receive applications for the next round of Traffic Safety Fund grants on July 1.

Applications are evaluated by the PSE Committee 鈥 this governing body is composed of representatives from the Municipalities of Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities, the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure and SGI.听

Applications for traffic safety grants must give attention to priority areas encompassing impaired and distracted motorists to occupant protection and intersection safety.听

Applicants should also include well-defined action plans, as well as precise, attainable and applicable objectives which are relevant to safety.
