St. Michael presents awards for top students, Grade 9 graduates

St. Michael School in Weyburn presented the top academic and extracurricular awards for their Grades 7-9 students at their annual awards night, along with scrolls for the graduating Grade 9 class.

WEYBURN – The top academic and athletic achievements at St. Michael School were recognized at the school’s annual awards night on Wednesday evening, and the graduates of the Grade 9 class received their scrolls.

The Grade 7 general proficiency award was presented to Ken Beroy, and the Grade 8 general proficiency award went to Elizabete Sirante.

The Honour of Achievement Awards for Grade 7 went to Lexi Bauman, Ken Beroy, Kassa Branvold, Katelynn Soles, Jaydyn Loreth, Avery Fleck, Avryelle Molnar, Chase Patterson, Ember Sim, Daisy Popescu and Katie Swayze. For Grade 8, the recipients were Taylor Cugnet, Jaira Manalo, Cohen Mantei, Samara Seghers, Madison Walkeden, E.J. Larracus, Lila Anderson, Peyton Birnie, Harlo Branvold, Izzy Edwards, Tori Fingler, Maya Jordens, Chloe Patzer, Elizabete Sirante, Dylan Van Staveren.

The Grade 9 recipients were Sierra Bauman, Gavin Bedore, Davin Cascagnette, Daylin Cascagnette, Kingston Cox, Sophia Dela Cruz, Maryanne Ejiofor, Ryan Hansen, Lily Popescu, Cadence Wawro, Harper Williams, Mira Bourassa, Atasha Recto, Sophie Walkeden and Raina Lohse.

The Awards of Excellence, for achieving the Honour of Achievement for all three years of junior high, went to Cadence Wawro, Sophie Walkeden, Mira Bourassa, Sierra Bauman, Raina Lohse, Harper Williams, Ryan Hansen and Lily Popescu.

The Grades 7 and 8 religious knowledge awards went to Zeus Hinlayagan and Haroun Matthew respectively.

The Leadership Awards for each class’s homeroom were presented. In Grade 7, Ken Beroy was awarded for 7-16, and Chase Patterson for 7-19, and in Grade 8, Jaya Clark was awarded for 8-18, and Lila Anderson for 8-20.

A new award, the 3-D Award (for drive, dedication and determination) were presented to Kassa Branvold in room 7-16; Avery Fleck and Arora Lasko for 7-19; Samara Seghers for 8-18 and Tori Fingler for 8-20.

In the performing arts awards, the Music Excellence Award went to Marlie Fleck, and the Best Band Performer awards went to Avery Fleck in Grade 7; Isaiah Perdis in Grade 8; and David Sorowski in Grade 9.

Recipients of the Most Improved Band Awards went to Chase Patterson in Grade 7; Ariana Reitze-Andres for Grade 8; and Sierra Bauman for Grade 9.

The Encore Band Awards, for the students who have been consistent, reliable and instrumental for the band, went to Jaxon Porter in Grade 7; E.J. Larracus for Grade 8; and Daylin and Davin Cascagnette for Grade 9.

The Best Drama Performers award went to Harper Williams and Markuss Skujins. The Most Promising Drama Performer was Preston Roncin.

For sports, the coaches awards were presented, with the boys A basketball award going to Cohen Mantei; the girls A basketball award to Harper Williams; and the boys B basketball award to Konner Thue.

The boys A volleyball awrd went to Kingston Cox and Javin Cleasby; the girls A volleyball award went to Cadance Wawro; the boys B volleyball award went to Nixon Fisher; and the girls B volleyball award to Nessa Goodfellow.

The badminton award went to Sophia Dela Cruz; the curling award to Raina Lohse; the track and field award to Grayson Kopec; and the cross-country award to Easton Spagrud.

The Male Athlete of the Year award went to Mulugeta Kesete, and the Female Athlete of the Year was Tori Fingler.

Sports camp scholarships were presented to Taylor Cugnet, Tori Fingler, Korbyn Petersen and Daylin Cascagnette.

The performing arts/band scholarships went to Ariana Reitze-Andres and Easton Moore.

The Grade 9 General Proficiency Award went to Cadence Wawro, and the Grade 9 Religious Knowledge award to Harper Williams.

The 3-D homeroom awards in Grade 9 went to Logan Dunne from 9-15, and Ryan Hansen for 9-17. The Yearbook Award went to Sophie Walkeden.

The SRC Leadership Award went to Harper Williams and Hannah Caldwell.

The Jerry Jordens Work Ethic Award, presented by former principal Jerry Jordens, went to Lily Popescu. The LaRocque-Trembley Citizenship Award went to Harper Williams.

The St. Michael School Award, for a student who takes pride in both academics and extracurricular activities, went to Maryanne Ejiofor.
