A special air quality statement is now in effect in much of southern Saskatchewan.

SOUTHERN SASKATCHEWAN - Environment Canada has lifted the special air quality statement for southern Saskatchewan, including Regina, Moose Jaw, Estevan, Weyburn, Assiniboia and Swift Current and surrounding areas.

Only a portion of southeast Saskatchewan, including the Carlyle, Redvers and Moosomin areas, was not affected.

Smoke from wildfires in central Saskatchewan was causing elevated air quality index values of 10-plus or very high, the advisory stated. A cold front was to track through the area Monday night, clearing smoke out of the area.

The advisory ended early Tuesday.

It was the second such advisory in a week for southern Saskatchewan due to the wildfire smoke.
