Assiniboia and district, along with much of southern Saskatchewan, experienced overcast skies throughout Monday, Sept. 14.

The dullish air originated from the smoke rolling in from Alberta overnight, creating a smouldering upper atmosphere filled with greyish and pink hues.

The haze derived from fires burning across the American west coastal areas.聽

The smoke persisted high up into the atmosphere, signifying that the surface air quality heath index has remained low.

Some of this smoke was expected to clear on Monday night, as a low pressure system was anticipated to move through the northern states, lifting surface winds in Saskatchewan鈥檚 northern regions in a reflexive consequence.聽

There was a risk of smoke redeveloping on Tuesday with a cold front set to pass through, which was expected to affect local air quality on a moderated scale.
