WEYBURN – All job actions by the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation have been suspended, with a return to the bargaining table on Monday, Feb. 12 in Saskatoon.
The STF had last instituted a series of one-day rotating strikes, including a withdrawal of noon-hour supervision on Feb. 8, but those are now all on hold pending the new round of contract talks.
The Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee extended the invitation late Wednesday night to the STF, as they received a new mandate from the government.
“We welcome the opportunity to return to the bargaining table to discuss teachers’ proposals and the important issues facing education in Saskatchewan. We are hopeful that the GTBC’s new mandate will allow for productive negotiations that will address the needs of students and teachers,” said Samantha Becotte, president of the STF.
She noted teachers have been united in their stand, and they have received an outpouring of support from parents, students, businesses, churches and religious groups and the general public.
The STF will resume the job actions if the negotiations fail to reach a new contract, she added.
