ASSINIBOIA - Renee Clermont has submitted her name as a candidate for the open Town Councillor position for the Town of Assiniboia. Residents can read the below interview to get to know the candidate:

Renee first came to the community of Assiniboia in 2012. She was born in Tisdale, raised in Regina, and is a proud mother of two young men, Matthew and Brenden.  Her husband, Mike Clermont grew up farming with his family in neighbouring Lafleche and has deep roots in the surrounding areas including Assiniboia.

Currently working at FYIdoctors, Renee is their licensed optician with several years of optical experience. She has also worked at Nelson GM and the Town of Assiniboia.

She believes that her skills gained in a municipal government office will be a great strength, and useful in the role of town councillor.

“I like to hike in the beautiful country around Assiniboia, travel, garden, and volunteer in my spare time,” said Renee. “I have always been eager to give back to my community. I have volunteered with Assiniboia Communities in Bloom; I’m a committee member with Festival of Trees, and now with The Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreation Centre as a member at large.”

Collaboration, Consultation, and Communication – “We need to open the door to transparent communication between Town and our residents. I want to be a voice for residents when decisions are being made about town priorities to ensure no one is left out. This is vital to earning trust within our community. Having public consultations, surveys, and open forum conversations will help our municipal leaders understand our residents’ daily challenges and what they value. Once council recognizes these needs, decisions can be made on how to disperse the budget.”

Marketing – “We have a fantastic community here. We could market Assiniboia as slower-paced, affordable, safe, and accessible community for all the facilities people need. We could attract families, bringing more students to support the schools, more employment opportunities, and more residents overall to maintain this great community. I walk everywhere in town. There’s no half-hour commute here. I love the convenience. Adjusting to schools and getting an after school job is easier here than in the cities. These are some of the benefits to small-town life and we could market that.”

Prosperity – “Some of the obvious needs are our roads, sidewalks, water quality, and understaffed healthcare facilities. I want to work together with our council and residents to help create more opportunities for growth and development. Our town council is working on these issues and I would love to help them continue to do so.”

Childcare Shortage – “We do not have enough childcare spaces for families in need. This is an issue I would like to assist with, to alleviate stress on families. By working together with childcare facilities, we can establish solutions that add more childcare space and secure childcare employees for our community.”

Diversity and Unity – “Everyone should be represented and included. I feel that female members on the council are important as town council should represent its population. I want our community to work together so we can accomplish common goals, and be a more united community.

“I want to work together with our current Mayor and town council to ensure Assiniboia is a safe, enjoyable, and prosperous community for generations to come,” she added.

“I wish Ryan Biletski all the best in the election. Either way, it’s a win-win.

“Please come out and vote on Wednesday, June 8! Help me get your voice heard so we can make our community even better together.”
