REDVERS — There’s a new face at the Redvers Medical Clinic and Tony Day Family Medical Clinic as Dr. Karim was welcomed to town recently. He’s the third doctor currently serving the needs of Redvers and area.

“We’re very fortunate because some of the other surrounding communities have been struggling, and so our Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Medical Group has worked really hard at getting that third doctor,” explained CAO Tricia Pickard.

The information item came before Redvers Town Council during last week’s meeting on Feb. 27.

Pickard credits the work of the Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Medical Group and their efforts as the reason why Redvers has been able to attract more professionals to their medical team.

“It is a lot of hard work by the Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Medical Group,” she said. “There’s a handful of people that advocate, they apply to the SIPPA program, they have a great relationship with SHA, and they do that quiet but very important behind the scenes work.

“That group has never stopped,” Pickard continued. “They are constantly working behind the scenes, looking at different programs, and just making the connections. And that just didn’t happen overnight; that’s been years of hard work. So that’s the secret to our success!”

Reno for vape shop

Council approved a renovation allowing the cannabis store Corner Joint to add a nicotine vape shop to their business. The work consists of building two new walls and adding a couple of doors.

“That development permit was approved, and then we issued a letter that we approved of them not only selling cannabis, but nicotine products as well,” Pickard said. “On their end, it’s the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Association that wants them to ensure that they’ve got permission from the municipality, as well as the proper building permits. So they’ve got to obtain those and then show proof.”

Street sweeping

While no decision was made during last week’s meeting, council looked at some options for future street sweeping operations.

“We’re hopefully going to be offering street sweeping twice this year, depending on how things go,” Pickard noted.

Street repair discussed

Council hosted a delegation comprised of Sebastian McClement from Genco Asphalt, appearing via phone regarding street repairs.

“We were talking about a section of Souris Avenue that we are considering doing some repaving,” Pickard said. “The water isn’t draining on there properly, and we did a new sidewalk along that street. So we wanted to look at options to see if we could do something. What we could do? how much is it going to cost?”

No decisions were made regarding the repairs, but McClement will be coming to Redvers soon.

“We had a good discussion with him, and he’s going to come down and shoot some levels and elevation to see what the best option is,” Pickard said.
