Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of October 16 to Oct 24:
During this reporting period, police received 140 calls for assistance.
*Police attended to several noisy parties as a result of neighbors complaining. Home owners were charged where appropriate.
*Police encourage people to be respectful of their neighbors and avoid creating unnecessary noise.
*The Weyburn Police Service is investigating numerous incidents of credit cards being compromised at the point of sale terminals at local businesses. With the constant onslaught of credit card and computer-based frauds, consumers are reminded to make sure they check their statements thoroughly for any discrepancies. Merchants are also being asked to verify their point-of-sale terminals have not been compromised. Local residents' cards are being used in other locations in Canada and the USA fraudulently.
*On October 23, police received a call from a home owner who heard noises in the garage in the early morning hours. Investigation revealed unknown persons had entered the unlocked garage and attempted to steal a television. Police are reminding residents to keep vehicles and homes locked to help prevent thefts. Well-lit areas also discourage thieves.
*On October 22, police received a complaint of youths throwing objects at vehicles in the 1000 block of Sims Avenue. Police located four male youths responsible for the act. There was no damage to any vehicles. The parents of the kids were advised of the actions taken by police.
*On October 21 at approximately 5:30 p.m., police attended a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 39. There were no injuries but both vehicles experienced enough damage to require being towed from the scene.
*On October 20, police received a report of vandalism occurring to a vehicle that was parked in the 10 block of 2nd Avenue northwest. The investigation is ongoing. Police request that anyone with any information in relation to this incident please assist by calling the police.
*On October 19, police were called to an accident that occurred on 22nd Avenue south. Investigation revealed that while parked at a business, a truck was struck by a skid steer working in the area. No injuries were reported.
*On October 18, police received complaints of objects being thrown at vehicles in the 1100 block of First Avenue northeast. This type of action is a very dangerous distraction to drivers, as well as it has the potential to cause damage to the vehicle. Offenders caught participating in this type of act will be charged accordingly.
*A 16 year old male was charged with stunting while driving a motor vehicle in the 100 block of 1st Avenue southwest. He was driving in a manner likely to distract or startle other users of the highway.
*On October 16th, police located a truck in Weyburn that had been reported stolen to the Estevan RCMP. A male was found in possession of the vehicle. Investigation into the matter is continuing.
