Report from the Weyburn Police Service from May 17 to 23:*On May 20, police received information that the body of a new born infant was observed in the garbage of a residence on Coteau Avenue in Weyburn. Investigation revealed that the accused, 33-year-old Angela Vermeulen of Weyburn, gave birth to an infant in her home on May 18.Allegedly, at some point after the birth she determined that the baby was not alive and placed it in a garbage bag and left it outside of her home. When the baby was observed by other individuals attending her home the following day (May 19), she moved the bag containing the infant to an industrial garbage receptacle, a short distance from her home. A short time after the baby was left, the industrial bin was emptied and its contents taken to the Weyburn Landfill.Investigation resulted in Vermeulen being charged with disposing of the dead body of a child, Section 243 of the Criminal Code; and interfering with the indignity of human remains, Section 182(b) of the Criminal Code.She appeared in Regina Court on May 21where she was released on an Undertaking with conditions.Her next appearance will be in Weyburn Provincial Court on June 1 at 10 a.m.Police have attempted several unsuccessful searches for the body of the infant at the Weyburn Landfill. Volunteers assisted the police in their search efforts on May 24. A search for the body of the infant continues and the investigation is ongoing.*On May 18 at 10 a.m. police were called to a vehicle roll-over at 16th Street and Warren Avenue. The driver of one of the vehicles was preceding west bound on Warren Avenue and left the stop sign before safe to do so, broad siding another vehicle, which was north bound on 16th Street, causing it to roll on its side. The first driver was charged with leaving a stop sign before safe to do so and driving while suspended.*Police also attended to a report of graffiti written on a garage door, four noisy party complaints, and one charge of impaired driving in which a 20-year-old male was charged with driving while over .08 and impaired driving.*Police responded to 105 complaints during this reporting period.
