Estevan Police Service (EPS) members made a good harvest of impaired drivers and other intoxicated people during the past seven days, according to information released from their headquarters on 11th Avenue.
The activity began in earnest Nov. 29 when four intoxicated men were investigated in two separate incidents near local lounges. One incident involved an individual who had caused a disturbance, but left the establishment prior to police arrival while the other involved three men who created a disturbance that was ultimately resolved when one of the patrons was barred from the premises.
Police reported that a global positioning system (GPS) had been taken from a semi unit that was parked in the central part of the city on Nov. 29. The report indicated the driver had left the unit for a short time to enter a convenience store and the system was lifted during this period. The matter remains under investigation.
An argument between two people that prompted a 911 call that was responded to by police did not result in any charges. It was reported that the 911 caller hung up after it appeared as if the dispute was subsiding, but police were still required to attend to the scene to ensure the matter had been resolved.
A 48-year-old man was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving while his blood-alcohol level was over .08 per cent on the night of Dec. 2. Police found the subject passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle. It was noted the vehicle was near a busy city street. His court date is Jan. 16.
A barking dog complaint was looked into on Dec. 2, but no definitive action could be taken since the dog owners were not home when police attended the scene. The matter remains under investigation.
A disturbance outside a local lounge was resolved when one subject was taken home.
A fight outside a local convenience store on the night of Dec. 2 resulted in police attendance where they determined that an assault had occurred with the suspect fleeing the scene. The victim was interviewed and the matter remains under investigation.
As a result of a citizen's call, a 39-year-old Ontario man was taken from his pickup truck at a local food-store parking lot on the morning of Dec. 3. He was charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08.
On the night of Dec. 3, a 30-year-old man was charged with operating a vehicle while his licence was suspended and operating an unregistered vehicle after he was stopped by police due to his erratic driving actions. The vehicle was impounded and he was issued a Feb. 6 court date.
That same night, an 18-year-old man was charged with driving while suspended and for failing to yield the right-of-way when entering a highway. His vehicle was impounded and his court date was set for Jan. 30.
Later on in the evening of Dec. 3, police laid charged against three impaired drivers. One of them, a 41-year-old Estevan man, was given a Dec. 19 court date.
The second driver had been stopped due to his high speed driving actions on Fourth Street. When EPS personnel finally stopped him, they determined he not only had been consuming liquor but he had also been suspended from driving and was operating an unregistered vehicle with an unauthorized licence plate. He faces several charges related to those offences and the vehicle he was driving was impounded. He was remanded into custody until his Dec. 5 court appearance.
The third person was arrested when he was spotted driving at night without headlights, among other things. It was noted that he too, was a suspended driver, so was charged accordingly after being taken into custody and his vehicle was impounded. A passenger in the vehicle was also charged for being intoxicated in public.
A 22-year-old man was arrested and lodged in cells for public intoxication on the night of Dec. 3 and early morning hours of Dec. 4. The man had been seen staggering into traffic on Fourth Street. He was charged for being intoxicated in public.
On the night of Dec. 5, a 21-year-old Regina man was charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08 per cent.
