One weekend robbery, but a quiet Halloween

Estevan Police Service (EPS) members were continuing their investigation into a robbery that occurred at the 7-Eleven convenience store on Fourth Street at 3:32 in the morning of Oct. 30.

Estevan Police Service (EPS) members were continuing their investigation into a robbery that occurred at the 7-Eleven convenience store on Fourth Street at 3:32 in the morning of Oct. 30.

An undisclosed amount of cash was removed from one of the store's cash registers and the suspect then fled on foot. Police did not disclose whether a weapon was involved in the incident, but did say that photos of the suspect were captured on the video surveillance system in the store which could aid them in their investigation.

An incident involving vehicles racing on 13th Avenue was investigated by EPS members on the night of Oct. 29 and subsequently two male youths were charged under the Traffic Safety Act.

A 28-year-old man was also arrested on the night of Oct. 29 or early morning of Oct. 30. He was charged for being intoxicated in public and lodged in cells overnight.

Earlier on in the week, a 27-year-old man was arrested on numerous outstanding warrants and while being taken into custody, he bolted from police custody and was then apprehended a second time following a foot chase. He was charged with escaping lawful custody with that charge being added to the several other charges that were pending. The man was remanded in custody until his Oct. 31 court appearance.

During the day of Oct. 28, police responded to a call in the central part of the city noting that a child had been left unattended in a vehicle for an extended period of time. Police investigated the matter, the child was seen to be fine and the matter was resolved with no charges laid.

On the night of Oct. 28 and early morning hours of Oct. 29, a 21-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication and lodged in cells for the night and a 51-year-old man was charged for impaired driving and driving while his blood-alcohol content was over .08 per cent.

During the day of Oct. 31, a 28-year-old man was charged with impaired driving as a result of a traffic stop in the east central part of the city. He now has a Dec. 5 court date. That same day, EPS members stopped a 52-year-old man in the north central area and charged him with impaired driving. He also has a Dec. 5 court date.

A noise complaint was registered against occupants of a residence in Willow Park Greens on Oct. 31. Police attended the scene and issued a warning about the City's noise bylaw and no further action was required. EPS members reported that generally speaking, Halloween activity from a vandalism perspective was minor in nature this year.

"There were some usual vandalism issues involving eggs or toilet paper, but not much else," said Const. Craig Bird, noting that final reports had not been completed by early Tuesday morning, but there was no indication of any serious vandalism incidents. For the most part, young people in the city enjoyed a good evening of collecting treats with co-operative weather conditions and local drivers paying extra attention, being on the lookout for the young ones who were out on the streets and sidewalks making their Halloween calls.
