Canadian Western Agribition (CWA), Western Canada's largest agribusiness show, today announced the 2011 recipients of the show's annual scholarships. Every year, Agribition awards five post-secondary scholarships to young people who have participated as exhibitors.
"These young people have already proven themselves to be leaders in building the future of agriculture. We are proud and honoured to have the opportunity to help them on their roads to success," says Marty Seymour, CEO and General Manager of Agribition.
Each scholarship is a $1,000 award that can be used at any recognized post-secondary institution in Canada or the United States. Since 1994 when the program began, $150,500 in scholarships has been presented. The CWA scholarship fund receives contributions annually from private donations as well as proceeds from the Agri-Ed Auctions and the Agribition Grounds Crew.
The 2011 Canadian Western Agribition Scholarship recipients are Jamie Kinzie of Saskatoon, Megan Rosso of Moose Jaw, Kelsey Stewart of Russell, MB, Amy Tweedie of Delisle and Logan Martinson of Midale. Logan is studying animal science technology at Alberta's Lakeland College. Logan's five-year involvement with Canadian Western Agribition has seen him compete in the Polled Hereford Show, Junior Hereford Showmanship and 4-H and Youth Team Grooming. As well, he showed a bull in the RBC Beef Supreme Challenge and participated in Agribition's Spring Steer and Heifer Show.
