Men returned to custody after breaching conditions

A week of variety for EPS members

A man who was wanted by Estevan Police Service on a Western Canada-wide warrant was arrested by the Burnaby, B.C. Detachment of the RCMP on July 8.

Mark L. Davis was escorted back to Estevan to attend court on July 14 where he was facing a variety of serious Criminal Code charges which could include kidnapping and extortion.

The Estevan Police Service (EPS) members were also busy handling a number of complaints and issuing a series of charges during the past week.

On July 7, EPS charged a 25-year-old man for driving erratically within the city following a complaint registered with police early on in the evening.

Police were called to a local lounge to attend to a fight that had broken out between two patrons. One was arrested and lodged in cells for the evening.

A report of an impaired driver operating a vehicle in the parking lot of the Shoppers Mall, was looked into by police but they were unable to locate the offending driver or vehicle.

A domestic disturbance on the city's north side on the night of July 7, led to the departure of a man who was heavily intoxicated and had been embroiled in the event. When police arrived in the area they conducted a patrol of the area but were unable to spot the man who then returned to the residence following their departure. Police were then called back to the residence and spoke to the man regarding the issue at hand and the matter was seen to be resolved so no further action was required.

On that same evening, two other men were arrested and lodged in cells. The men were taken into custody following a check of the vehicle they were in, in the central part of the city.

The two men face a number of charges under the Alcohol Gaming Regulations Act for being intoxicated in public and consuming alcohol in a vehicle. A further charge was laid against one of the subjects under the city's bylaw for urinating in public. That offence carries a fine of $500.

On the night of July 7, EPS members were asked to look into a stolen vehicle complaint. The vehicle had been taken from a local apartment complex parking lot. The vehicle's owner had been away for awhile and upon returning had noticed that her vehicle had gone missing.

The theft incident remains under investigation.

Police were next asked to look into a report of some suspicious activity after two subjects were observed loitering near a local business. Two youths, aged 14 and 16 were located and turned over to their parents and the matter remains under investigation with possible charges of mischief still being contemplated.

On the night of July 8, a 28-year-old man was arrested for being in breach of a recognizance. He was remanded into custody pending his July 11 court date. He had previously been released with certain court conditions being applied after being charged with trafficking in a controlled substance.

On the night of July 9, a 21-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving and driving while his blood-alcohol content was over .08 per cent.

That same night a 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with breaching his conditional sentence requirements and for being in possession of a controlled substance. He was remanded into custody pending his July 11 court appearance.

Other EPS activity on July 9, involved the arrest of a 30-year-old man for being intoxicated in public and being in possession of a controlled substance and the arrest of a 20-year-old man for being intoxicated in public. He was lodged in cells until sober.

On the night of July 10, a 14-year-old youth was charged with mischief after he placed a firecracker in a mailbox in the 1200 block of Seventh Street and then lit it.
