Maverick Party candidate feels election was a good learning experience

“I believe we are absolutely further ahead (as a party) than where we were three months ago. This election just proves to show that the West can’t vote a government in, nor can we vote a government out.” - Mark Skagen, Maverick Party.

ASSINIBOIA -Running in the Cypress-Hills Grasslands riding during the federal election for the first time was a learning experience for Maverick Party candidate Mark Skagen. He noted that the results were less than what he had expected, but still felt that it was a good opportunity to spread the word on what the Maverick Party represents.

Skagen received 1,284 votes, which was 3.9 per cent, according to preliminary election results for Cypress-Hills Grasslands.

“It was a slow start to the campaign, and a short fuse since it was such a short timeline. It was difficult for the Maverick Party to get out to everyone, and convince them to vote for us,” said Skagen.

“I believe we are absolutely further ahead (as a party) than where we were three months ago. This election just proves to show that the West can’t vote a government in, nor can we vote a government out.”

“It was difficult because the Maverick Party was looking at constitutional change, and structural change, to how voting should be done.” Skagen projects that another election will be held in a year-and-a-half, since the Liberals only won a minority government.

“We will keep on plowing along and telling residents about the Maverick party,” he added.

Skagen said that he would absolutely run again for the Maverick Party, “as long as the party is willing to have me. For myself, and my family, it was a chance to either win, or for learning experience.”
