REGINA — The Mackenzie Art Gallery has plead guilty to one workplace injury violation that took place approximately a year ago, resulting in a large fine and surcharge.

The MAG appeared in provincial court in Regina on Dec. 16 for a violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996, resulting in two charges.

The incident in relation to the charges took place in January of 2020, where a worker was injured while using a table saw.

As a result of that incident, the MAG received two charges related to the violation of subsection 137(1).

The company pleaded guilty to one charge, which outlined that they as an employer “failed to provide an effective safeguard” for a worker who was using a dangerous machine, resulting in serious injury. The second charge, of which no details were provided, was stayed by the court.

On the one guilty charge, the Provincial Court served the MAG with a $14,000 fine and a $5,600 surcharge, for a total of $19,000.
