Estevan Police Service personnel made arrests, laid charges and processed eight separate alcohol-related incidents during the past week, not including several more summary offence tickets under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act for alcohol related offences within the city.
They also were called upon to investigate and handle no fewer than six assault and domestic disturbance calls and laid charges in one drug-related incident.
On Jan. 3, EPS members along with emergency medical services personnel, responded to a medical emergency alarm system in the central part of the city. A female victim was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where she received further assistance.
An EPS traffic stop in the central part of the city on Jan. 4 resulted in one man being found in possession of open alcohol in a vehicle. He was charged accordingly.
On the night of Jan. 5, city police attended to the northeast side of the city to look into a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the area. The vehicle was eventually searched and a large amount of drug paraphernalia was seized.
That same night ,EPS members responded to three separate alcohol related events, the first involving a 19-year-old man who was subsequently taken to police cells where he was lodged until gaining sobriety.
The second incident involved an intoxicated 21-year-old who was also lodged in cells after being charged with being intoxicated in public.
Police were then called to the central part of the city where a patron in a lounge was refusing to leave when requested to do so. The 23-year-old man was transported to police cells after being charged for public intoxication.
During the night shifts on Jan. 6 and 7, police arrested and charged a 47-year-old man for impaired driving and for refusing to provide a breath sample during a traffic stop in the central part of the city. He now has a court date.
A 23-year-old Estevan man was arrested outside a local lounge after it was determined he was in contravention of a court order that required him to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. He was lodged in cells until sober and now has a February court date to answer to the new charges.
A fight outside a local store attracted police attention on the weekend. A 26-year-old Bienfait man faces possible assault causing bodily harm charges.
A 43-year-old Ontario man was arrested for driving while impaired and driving while his blood-alcohol level was above .08 per cent. The arrest followed a complaint registered from a local lounge. The subject now has a February court date.
Possible charges are pending against a local resident following a complaint of uttering threats via texts.
Some aggressive fans attending a local sporting event at a city arena were warned about their conduct during the past weekend.
EPS members responded to four calls in a row regarding noise disturbances, two of them to the same residence where a 22-year-old occupant was issued a warning about the noise bylaw. The next noise complaint led to charges being laid against a 15-year-old with a loud stereo in the Royal Heights area of the city. Several loud party complaints were also handled by police on the weekend.
After they cleaned up some of the noisy party and loud stereo complaints, police were dispatched to the central part of the city to investigate an assault incident that remains under investigation with possible charges of assault and mischief pending.
A fight outside a local lounge also remains under investigation.
An SUV was seized from a 23-year-old Alberta man who was found to be driving while suspended. He now has a February court date.
Another call regarding hockey fans becoming too aggressive resulted in the arrest of one young person who had to be removed from the arena while others face a possible future banishment from the facility.
A domestic disturbance at a residence on the south side of the city was resolved when one of the subjects engaged in the incident left the scene. But police continued their investigation into the matter and assault charges may be laid.
