A former Estevan resident, who has moved on to Calgary with a career in acting, has recently been nominated for an award for a new web series she has not only performed in, but produced as well.
Lara Taillon premiered the pilot for her web series Necessary Action in February, and last week the show was nominated for an award from the Alberta Media Production Industries Association (AMPIA). It is part of the best digital program or project category, and she will be at the 38th annual Alberta Film and Television Awards on May 12 in Calgary.
Taillon was informed of the nomination by a phone call from the director of the series. Her initial reaction was asking, "Are you sure?"
She wondered if there were some way he could be mistaken.
"You'd think you'd get an e-mail or something. I've gone back to check (the list) in case somebody misread it," she said.
It took a day to sink in.
"I'm still a little bit stunned."
It's Taillon's first show in a role that sees her as a writer and producer, as well as the primary role of Robi. The show is available online only, and Taillon said she has heard good things so far.
"The response was so good. People have been asking when it will be continuing on."
So far only the pilots has been produced, and where it goes from there, Taillon still isn't sure.
"It expands your mind set," she said, after the initial response. "There's a want for it, it's not just us, where we think it's cool, but we're not sure if anybody else will like it."
Though the AMPIA nomination did come as a surprise, Taillon said she is just as eager to get to the event and see what it's all about.
"It's incredible, but it's so humbling," she said, noting she is nominated alongside the director from Heartland. "It's a little overwhelming."
The awards night also provides an opportunity for networking with people throughout the industry, something Taillon will be doing, heading to different companies' tables.
