An Estevan man was released from custody Thursday, July 28. The man, who lead Estevan police on a chase to Weyburn June 22, was in court for his show-cause hearing.
Evan Garrow, 21, stole a car from the Tower Cafe parking lot and drove at speeds reaching 180 kph. He was eventually stopped in Weyburn after driving over spike belts set up by police and has been in custody since. Garrow was charged with stealing a car, evading police, and driving while impaired.
Garrow was released on bail with a number of conditions, including that he remain within his residence except for the purpose of employment and travel to and from work. He is also required to report to the Estevan Police Service twice a week and cannot consume, purchase or possess any non-prescription drugs or alcohol. Garrow is required to submit to urine or breath testing when requested by any peace officer or his bail supervision officer, and cannot operate a motor vehicle.
Garrow will be back in court Aug. 22.
In other court proceedings, Ronald Hemmelspeck, Amanda Knebush, Jessica Smith and Spencer Persson were in court. The three were among the six people arrested in relation to the May long weekend kidnapping. Hemmelspeck and Persson's matters were adjourned until Aug. 22, while Knebush's were adjourned until Aug. 11, and Smith's were adjourned until Aug. 4.
Estevan resident Carly Selk was in court Thursday, but her matter was adjourned without a plea until Sept. 22.
Michael Baguma, who was charged in relation to June's drug bust, was in court. The conditions of his release were amended to allow him to work and to travel to and from work.
