Local women packed Spectra Place on Saturday for the first Estevan Ladies' Night and Bridal Show.

The event, which ran for roughly 10 hours, featured a myriad of events all geared toward businesswomen and brides, with an added focus on breast cancer awareness. Organizer Jennifer Melanson said the show attracted more than 300 people.

From a women's trade show to a fashion show, guest speaker, appetizers and raffle items, the day had something for virtually everyone.

"We had a lot of entertainment and the fashion show went really well. A lot of people enjoyed the trade show. They said it was really different," said Melanson, who added that roughly $10,000 in raffle items was handed out.

The trade show featured a wide variety of products, including booths for local outlets Jenny Joans and Dolly Sue's.

"We had a bunch of different things. The women loved that," Melanson said. "We had some women who don't normally go to trade shows."

Breast cancer survivor Carol Cundall spoke for about 45 minutes and "did a fabulous job," according to Melanson. Margaret Hill of the Canadian Cancer Society was also scheduled to speak but had to cancel due to illness.

Brian Zinchuk served as the emcee. Melanson said the only downside of the event was the cold temperature that came with holding it at the arena, with only a thin layer separating the people from the ice surface.

"It was pretty chilly in there, but they toughed it out," she said.

The group is considering holding the event in a different venue next year, perhaps including a sit-down catered meal.

Melanson said it's hard "to find a place that can accommodate us because we're such a big event."

She added that organizers don't know yet how much money was raised for the cancer society.
