Weyburn's Walk to Cure Diabetes had hundreds of people show their support on November 13, during which participants raised $41,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Weyburn's event was one of 10 that took place across Saskatchewan and the last of 75 walks that happened across Canada this year.

During the event, E. Bourassa & Sons presented Walk Organizer Trina Kopec with a cheque for $1,100, which was the result of five barbecue fundraisers recently held by the company.

Ogema Kindergarten teachers Donna Hartley and Carey Metheral presented another donation on behalf of their class. The children brought in pennies for a fundraiser to help their classmate Allie Schmidt, who suffers from Juvenile Diabetes.

Shayla Gerle was this year's local JDRF Ambassador. She is 11 years old and has type 1 diabetes. Her school in Gladmar held a fundraising dance for JDRF, collecting a total of $8,814.

Last year's Local Ambassador, Holden Duncan-Kopec, also spoke during the event.

More than 75,000 people impacted by diabetes. That's one person out of 14.
