REGINA — Every day at Government House in Regina is like stepping back in time to 1905, but the heritage site took it one step further with its first-ever Old Fashioned Fun and Games Day on Saturday.
The first-time event welcomed families to stop by the historic museum to experience a day of fun like a true Edwardian upper-class guest, including old-fashioned games in the garden like croquet, bocce ball and cricket.
Inside, tours of the Lieutenant-Governor's historic residence — set in the year 1905, of course — and crafts were available, as well as a pair of scavenger hunts that covered the grounds.
“It went really, really well. We had a really good turnout,” said Government House manager Brie Hnetka.
Uncertain weather cancelled some activities of the day, like the lemonade stand and antique car show, but overall Hnetka said the inaugural event was a promising success.
“A lot of people came out and hopefully we can make this an annual event,” said Hnetka. “We’ll try and do it again and maybe expand it for years to come.”
