REGINA — A Regina man has his dog to thank for his new status as a millionaire, after a trip to the store meant buying a lottery ticket on the whim.
Gordon Loucks was announced as the winner of $1 million on the Oct. 2 Lotto 6/49 draw, which he says he bought during a quick stop to buy his furry best friend a treat.
“Well, my dog wanted some milk,” he said, when interviewed by Sask Lotteries. “I went to the store and decided to buy a LOTTO 6/49 ticket at the same time.”
“So, I guess I owe it all to my dog!” he continued, chuckling.
Loucks checked his ticket number online after hearing that one of the lottery’s guaranteed prizes was won by a ticket-holder in Regina. After asking his brother to confirm the good news, Loucks said he was excited.
The Regina winner said he hasn’t made any concrete plans for the unsuspected cash, but that he plans to help out his family with some of his winnings.
“I’m going to make sure my mom is taken care of,” he said. “She’s 95-years-old and raised seven kids. She deserves to live the rest of her life without any financial worries.”
