The holiday season attracts various forms of celebrations and the Estevan Police Service members had their fair share of the results of some of these events as they ended up handling a number of alcohol-related and theft incidents between Dec. 26 and Jan. 3.
On Dec. 26, EPS were called to a residence in the Pleasantdale area of the city to open an investigation into a home invasion. The break and enter incident had resulted in a number of items being removed from the home.
Dec. 27, saw police responding to two more break and enter reports. The first was in the city centre where thieves forced entry into the home and had taken a number of items. Police were then asked to return to the Pleasantdale area where another report of a break and enter needed to be looked into.
The entry and removal of items was similar to the other two incidents and police are requesting the assistance of the public with regards to these thefts. Anyone with information regarding suspicious activities in their neighbourhood around that time is asked to contact the EPS at 634-4767 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
The night of Dec. 27 saw police once again responding to a break and enter call in the south central part of the city. Damage had been done to an exterior door and food had been taken from the home. All these matters remain under investigation.
A domestic disturbance, fuelled by alcohol, escalated to the point that it required police intervention on Dec. 30. The matter was resolved when one person involved in the dispute left the apartment for the evening.
A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving while his blood-alcohol level was over .08 per cent on the night of Dec. 30. The man was stopped by police on the north side of the city. His driving actions caught the attention of police members on patrol. The accused now has a Jan. 30 court date.
A 19-year-old man was arrested and lodged in cells after police responded to a complaint of a man passing out in the washroom of a local lounge. He was released after gaining sobriety and was charged with being intoxicated in public.
An assault incident at a local nightclub is now under investigation after being reported to police by the victim on the night of Dec. 30. Charges are pending.
A noise complaint coming from the north side of the city resulted in a warning being issued against a home owner and no further action was required.
An assault surrounding a road rage incident was reported to police on the night of Dec. 31. The incident occurred on the east side of the city when the operator of one vehicle cut in front of another vehicle.
On that same evening, police responded to two noise complaints that resulted in warnings being issued.
They then proceeded to the south side of the city in response to a domestic dispute. One person was taken into custody and lodged in cells while police opened an investigation into the matter that involved alcohol.
Police were called to the central part of the city when someone called them regarding some suspicious activities going on in their backyard. Before police could arrive, the homeowner confronted the suspicious person who fled the scene.
A broken window in the front door of an apartment building led to police attendance at the scene and that led to the opening of an investigation.
Police were called to the scene of a disturbance in the Pleasantdale area of the city on the night of Dec. 31 but no combatants were located when they arrived.
The evening wound down with a 37-year-old man being arrested for impaired driving and driving while over .08; a third domestic disturbance call that was resolved when one person left the area for the evening and a public intoxication charge laid against a 60-year-old man who had fallen in an alley near a local lounge.
On the night of Jan. 1, EPS members were called to a domestic disturbance involving some family members and the return of three children to their court ordered guardian. The issue was eventually resolved peacefully.
EPS members received a report of snowmobiles being operated in the city's south side on Jan. 1. They were unable to locate any offending machines and drivers, but did issue a reminder to snowmobile operators that a City bylaw bans the use of snowmobiles within city limits with the exception of designated snowmobile trails.
A domestic disturbance on the city's north side was resolved peacefully on Jan. 1.
On the night of Jan. 2, police received a call regarding an SUV with Manitoba licence plates whose driver had lost control of the vehicle, and struck a Canada Post drop-off box at the intersection of Edward Place and Alexandra Avenue. The vehicle fled the scene, but police managed to locate a suspect vehicle parked in the 600 block of Isabelle Street and noted that it had sustained significant damage so it was seized for the purpose of a continuation of the investigation.
