A Moose Jaw RCMP officer was assisting a westbound semi involved in a collision with a guardrail on Highway 1 near the Belle Plaine overpass, when their unoccupied police car was hit by a second westbound semi on the evening of November 8 at around 8:15 p.m.

Saskatchewan RCMP officers and Saskatchewan Highway employees were on scene of the two collisions and directing traffic.

Two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane of Highway 1 near the Belle Plaine overpass have been closed. Eastbound traffic is reduced to one lane. Westbound traffic is being rerouted through Range Road 642 North and Township 170 West to reconnect with Highway 1 after the overpass.

Moose Jaw RCMP asked motorists to be cautious when approaching the area and to slow down and obey directions given by the officers. If possible, motorists were requested to avoid the area.

The causes of the two collisions are being investigated by the RCMP, including a traffic analyst. No one at the site of the two collisions suffered injuries.

Moose Jaw RCMP further said the current weather in Saskatchewan has created dangerous road conditions – drivers were asked not to travel unless necessary.
