A new park has opened on Fourth Street on a combination of Sasktel and Salvation Army property next to the Salvation Army.

The park, now named Garden on Fouth, was dreamed up by Leslie Padwick, Gale Tytlandsvik and Lynn Chipley of the Art and Life Committee, a sub-committee of the Beautification committee.

Tytlandsvik worked on the design of the park, chose and planted the plants and painted the culverts.

"Without Gale's expertise, talent, energy and commitment, none of this would have happened," said Padwick, while thanking those involved in the creation of the park.

Dale Schnell and his team from Rock Solid Landscaping built the park, working alongside Tytlandsvik on design issues.

"The craftsmanship of this park is just truly amazing," said Padwick of Schnell's work.

Tytlandsvik thanked Padwick for her hard work behind the scene dealing with the financial aspect of the building, as well as the paperwork.

The park was started in 2009, and was briefly stalled in 2010 until the project received a donation from Business Improvement District, allowing it to be finished.

The park will be maintained by the Girl Guides of Estevan.

"We have to get it well known," said Mayor Gary St. Onge. "It's in a great place to have your lunch at noon, you know, if you're bringing a bag lunch."

Eventually adding a mural will complete the park.
