The new year got off to a tough start for a pair of Estevan residents after their home was destroyed by a fire Jan.2.
The Estevan Fire Rescue Service says it was alerted to a blaze on the 1400 block of Fifth Street at approximately 2 a.m. and upon arrival found the home engulfed by flames. The two occupants of the home were able to escape safely thanks to working alarms said Deputy Chief Dale Feser, who added that firefighters were on scene for 12 hours.
"It was an all hands on deck call," he said.
Although the fire department is in the early stages of its investigation, Feser said the origin of the blaze is not considered suspicious. He added the house is most likely a total loss.
