ESTEVAN - The Estevan Fire Rescue Service's members were called to a call of a potential structure fire on Oct. 2.
The situation occurred at about 5 p.m. in the central part of the city. The callers reported the possible fire. Incident command responded and determined that there was some smoke in the building due to a malfunctioning appliance, said Estevan Fire Chief Rick Davies. With no actual emergency going on, crews were stood down from responding to that incident, and staff at the location dealt with the issue.
On Oct. 3 at about 2 p.m., a residential carbon monoxide alarm went off in a house in northern Estevan. Incident command responded and determined that there were issues with a faulty detector, so crews were stood down in that case as well.
Oct. 8-14 marks the Fire Prevention Week in Canada, and the EFRS will host their traditional open house on Oct. 10 from 5-8 p.m. at the fire station in Estevan. They invite the community to stop by, explore the station and their fleet and enjoy hotdogs. There also will be activities for kids. The event is free to the public.
