The Family Place officially opened the Festival of Trees display and silent auction on November 14. Located at the City Centre Mall, the display is set up in the partitioned southwest corner of the Co-op Home Centre. Patrons follow the sign to the space donated within the Co-op store and walk to the south end to access the splendour of Christmas held within the cloth walls.
This year more than 100 items have been donated, including 24 trees for auction.
Alderman Nancy Styles represented the City of Weyburn at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 14. Mayor Debra Button, who is visiting the Ukraine, expressed her regret in being unable to attend the ceremony.
The Family Place's 12th Annual Festival of Trees display and silent auction is open for viewing and bidding through to November 24 during regular mall hours, which are Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sundays 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.
The space puts the fun in fundraising, including offering an opportunity for children to have their pictures taken with Santa during the afternoon of November 22.
"It's fun for the whole family," said Kathy Helfrick, Executive Director of the Family Place.
The Festival of Trees commences on November 24 at 7:00 p.m. with an Auction Gala. The event is the Family Place's largest fundraising event of the year, with businesses, organizations and individuals generously donating trees, silent auction items, money and time.
The Family Place is open year round and also raises funds through donations, birthday parties, catering, and other activities to help cover the costs associated with the programming, which improves the quality of life for children and families. Programming includes a wide range of helpful support systems for all aspects of nurturing.
