ESTEVAN — The Rotary Clubs of Estevan and Weyburn hosted their annual Golf Ball Drop fundraiser at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club.
The two clubs were able to sell about 7,000 tickets, each of which matched a golf ball. Saturday evening all balls were loaded into a big basket, lifted in the air and dropped at the golf course over a specially-designed hole. The first three balls that found their way into the hole brought in some money for the owners of the matching tickets.
Amanda Minchin's ball hit the hole first, Gil Mountney's was second and Mel Weinmeyer's was third.
The proceeds from the fundraiser are split 50/50 between Estevan and Weyburn's Rotary Clubs. All the money is used to support local initiatives and projects in the two cities.
The fundraiser was started by Weyburn about nine years ago. Three years later the Rotary Club of Estevan joined the fun initiative, and ever since the two clubs kept raising money for their communities, rotating the location of the drop. Next year the Rotary Golf Ball Drop will take place in Weyburn.
