Estevan Police Service (EPS) personnel rounded up and arrested a number of people who were charged with either possessing or trafficking in controlled substances during the past week.
The activity began Dec. 15 when they arrested a 21-year-old Macoun male for unlawfully possessing a controlled substance and followed up with another charge against him for possessing another controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
On that same evening, a 22-year-old Oxbow man was charged with impaired driving and driving while his blood-alcohol content was over .08 per cent while a 22-year-old White Cap First Nations resident was charged with being in breach of an undertaking and for several outstanding warrants that had been issued for him from various other policing agencies.
On Dec. 16, EPS members arrested and charged a 20-year-old Estevan man for possession of a controlled substance (marijuana).
On that same night, a 22-year-old Saskatoon man was arrested on a number of outstanding warrants that had been registered against him by Saskatoon Police Service personnel. He was later released with a court date in Saskatoon having been established.
A 23-year-old Estevan man was arrested and charged with driving while over .08 and impaired driving on Dec. 16.
A report of a hit-and-run incident at a local lounge attracted police attention on Dec. 16. A 19-year-old Estevan man was charged with failing to report a motor vehicle accident.
On the night of Dec. 16, EPS received a call from a local lounge advising them that they were having difficulty with a man who was refusing the leave the premises after being asked to do so. When police arrived, a 19-year-old Estevan man was charged accordingly.
Police next received a call from another city lounge advising them that employees had apprehended a man who was believed to be in possession of some cocaine. Police attended and arrested a 19-year-old Estevan man for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. He now has a set court date.
The next call for police that night came from a local hotel where management was informing them that the smoke alarm was sounding. Police and fire department personnel attended and as a result of their investigation, a 37-year-old Alberta man was charged with mischief after it was discovered that he had disconnected the smoke alarm in his room.
On Dec. 17, city police received a report of someone painting graffiti on the back of a local school. The matter is being investigated.
Police then charged a 38-year-old Carlyle man with wilful damage that same night. The man had been arrested and placed in cells and while he was in custody he managed to rip up his mattress and attempted to flush it down the toilet. He now has a court date.
On that same night, a 21-year-old Bienfait man was charged with being in possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and now has a court date.
A 41-year-old Estevan man was charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08 on the night of Dec. 17 as was a 19-year-old Midale man.
On Dec. 18, EPS members received a report of a break and enter at a room in a local hotel. When they arrived at the scene, police learned that the victim was missing a large sum of money plus his laptop computer.
Police were also asked to look into a stolen truck incident. The truck was taken from the 1300 block of Seventh Street on Dec. 18. Police have opened investigations into both of these theft incidents.
