EPS handling calls of frauds, thefts and scams

Police also called about a possible assault on the weekend.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service remained busy late last week and into the weekend with a variety of calls. 

Police conducted a number of traffic stops on Oct. 19. During one of those stops, a local man had his driver’s licence suspended for 21 days after he blew a warning on a roadside device to check for alcohol.

Members located a suspicious vehicle at a business in the 300-block of Fifth Street. The man was identified and was spoken to briefly before being sent on his way.

Police were called about a possible assault that occurred in the early morning of Oct. 21. The matter is under investigation.

Officers received a report of something on fire in a backyard in central Estevan. Members attended and located the homeowner burning leaves. Member advised the homeowner of the bylaw prohibiting the burning of leaves and garbage. The fire was extinguished. No further action was required.

Police received a report of an individual being scammed out of a damage deposit while trying to rent a property in Estevan. The matter is still under investigation.

Officers received a report of two individuals attempting to break into a local business. Members attended and spoke to two people that were just window shopping. No further action required.

Police also received a report of a fraud. The victim had e-transferred funds to someone who was supposedly selling appliances. The seller never showed up. The matter is still under investigation.

A set of keys were located on a walking path and turned into police on Oct. 23. If you are missing keys, please contact the police station.

Police received a report of a stolen debit card. The card was used at several locations around the city. The matter is still under investigation.

Officers were called about a male receiving unwanted messages and phone calls. The matter is still under investigation.
