The annual Rally Against Violence in Estevan (RAVE) is set for Thursday night.
The Envision Counselling and Support Centre will hold the fifth RAVE beginning at 8 at the Estevan Provincial Court House. The event is an opportunity to for citizens to take a stand against violence in the city.
It is not a rally against bullying as was incorrectly reported in the April 27 edition of the Estevan Mercury.
"We're feeling momentum from last year which was our most successful RAVE to date. This year we feel we know how to keep it positive, shine a light on the ways our community can promote peace," said Patt Lenover-Adams, Envision's executive director. "It is hard to reclaim peace without having a sense of community. We cannot have peace in our community without involving children, families, friends and the community at large.
"The RAVE is a non-threatening way to join forces against violence. We invite the entire community to commemorate this day in an effort to promote positive change and curb all forms of abuse. It's a serious subject matter but the event is uplifting."
Organizers are inviting all members of the community to join Envision's board of directors, employees and volunteers on a short sunset walk dowtown illuminated by hand-held glow sticks to promote peace. There will also be entertainment and a live performance by the Estevan Comprehensive School's Youth Advocates which will be followed by a short program on the courthouse lawn. The program is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and conclude at 9 o'clock.
