The Sunrise Day Care, along with the Legacy Park Early Learning Centre, is holding a fundraiser family fun night on New Year's Eve.

WEYBURN – Weyburn's Sunrise/Legacy Park Early Learning Centre will host a New Year’s Eve Family Fun Night.

It will be hosted at Knox Hall on Saturday, Dec. 31, from 7-9 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children and under two years is free.

Richy Roy will be on hand to give a magic show and then will be DJing for the rest of the night.

Organizers will also have carnival style games with prizes and a silent auction table, and Kendra Ellingson will be offering her face-painting services. A small canteen with drinks and snacks will also be available.

A number of sponsors are helping the Early Learning Centre with the evening, including RD Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, sponsoring the hall rental; MNP Weyburn, Weyburn Dodge, CFO Rentals and Streamline Oilfield Services are sponsoring Richy Roy; Whitecap Resources are sponsoring prizes for the carnival games; Prairie Sky Co-Op and Vortex Plumbing and Heating are sponsoring the drinks and snacks in the canteen, and Â鶹´«Ã½AV Country Equipment, Muse Salon, Cee’s Creative Corner, Ignite Fitness and RonaLee Larsen donated items for the silent auction table.

The organization initially started as an 11-space teen parent support program located in the old college building at the Weyburn Comprehensive High School.

In 2013, when the school division expanded the Comp to include the Junior High grades, the program was expanded to include the initial 11 spaces, as well as 39 community spaces. With this expansion came a need to begin fundraising to cover the increase in need for equipment and supplies, as well as to furbish the outdoor play space for the Centre.

When the COVID pandemic hit, the organization was forced to put a pause on all fundraising endeavors.

In 2021, the organization was granted the tender to acquire the Legacy Park Early Learning Centre, attached to the new elementary school. With this new acquisition comes the need for fundraising more than ever.

The Centres now have two outdoor play spaces they want to complete, and they need to purchase more specialized equipment for the children in their care. All funds raised at this event will be put towards the purchase of the equipment and supplies needed to furbish both outdoor play spaces.
