ESTEVAN — A vehicle stop resulted in an impaired driving investigation being conducted on Friday.
According to the Estevan Police Service, the driver of the vehicle provided two samples of his breath, with results that were more than twice the legal limit. The driver was charged with impaired driving and given a court date in July. The vehicle was also seized for 60 days.
Police are investigating an incident where two vehicles were travelling at excessive speeds on 13th Avenue on Friday. One young driver is facing multiple Traffic Safety Act charges for operating in excess of 50 kilometres per hour over the posted limit, disobeying a red light and failing to immediately stop for police. The youth was travelling at speeds of 100 km/h while heading south on 13th Avenue.
Fines for the speeding and red light are over $1,000 and the other charge is a summons to court. The vehicle that he was driving was also impounded.
The second vehicle involved did pull over immediately when the motorist saw the red and blue lights. Police will be following up with that driver as well in the coming days and charges are pending.
Police also received a report of a suspicious person in the 500 block of Second Street. Members attended but were unable to locate the individual. The public is reminded to lock their cars and remove any valuables from plain sight.
On Saturday, police were called to a central Estevan parking lot on the report of dogs left unattended inside a vehicle with outside temperatures rising. The dogs were found to be fine with no concerns as there was proper ventilation as well as food and water.
The public is reminded that animals overheat very quickly when inside a vehicle on warm days. Always ensure there is proper ventilation along with plenty of water and food.
