The Weyburn Police Service recently received a donation of $10,000 for a brand new Polaris RZR ATV from Cenovus Energy. The department plans to use the all-terrain vehicle to increase their visibility in the community and connect with youth.

Chief Howard Georgeson said that the service will use the ATV as a promotional vehicle and plans to have it present at several events including the Rider Round-up on May 14, Relay For Life, Cancer Jamboree, Saskatchewan Oil Show, and Jubilee Park during soccer and baseball games.

"We wanted something that was really going to stand-out," Georgeson said.

The department was also looking for a vehicle that would help them connect with the city's youth, according to Georgeson.

"Hopefully it will change the attitudes of our youth," said Georgeson. "Maybe it will make them want to become police officers."

Georgeson said that he had presented the idea of this particular kind of donation to several corporations since arriving to Weyburn from Prince Albert last fall, when Cenovus Energy stepped-up to the plate

The ATV also received $6,500 worth of options from New Age Motorsports, including a sports roof, helmets, goggles and an overhead speaker.
