And just like that, the City of Estevan is again out of lots to build new homes on.The City recently announced that the 24 lots, put on sale less than a month ago, in the Dominion Heights subdivision have already been sold.
City manager Jim Puffalt said the news is somewhat of a double-edged sword for them. On one hand they are happy to see the lots sell while on the other it means they no longer have any more lots to sell to the public.
"We are working hard with developers trying to make plans and make sure there are properties available next year," said Puffalt.
The City's focus as far as lots are concerned is the northwest corner of Estevan. They are working with the Alberta-based Newport Developments to get The Meadows of Estevan off the ground. That development, when fully realized, will add well over 100 new lots to the local supply.
The City also has a development of its own on the go across the street from The Meadows on land it purchased from St. Joseph's Hospital.
Puffalt said Focus Engineering, the firm hired by Newport to develop The Meadows, has done a redesign on their plans, which has delayed the start of work but he expects tenders for the earthwork and utilities to go out in the near future.
"They will (work) as long as long as weather permits and pick it up in the spring again," Puffalt said. "By next summer there should be something available."
Puffalt said the City plans to develop their new subdivision along with Newport to expedite the process and potentially cut down on costs.
