Dangerous Regina driver yields 16 charges

Accused faces long list of weapons offences, say police.

REGINA – An early-morning high-speed chase through the city earned one Regina man a slew of charges.

The incident began early yesterday morning at 12:40 a.m. when police saw a vehicle "driving erratically and at high speeds" on Dewdney Avenue, near Elphinstone Street. This prompted police to launch their eyes in the skies.

"Members of the Aerial Support Unit located the vehicle, observed the vehicle come to a stop on Rosen Crescent, and observed the driver exit the vehicle," said RPS in a media release. "Patrol officers located the suspect male inside a residence and he was taken into custody without incident."

During their investigation, RPS members also seized a gun and ammunition.

Jordan Lee Taypotat, 34, was charged with four counts possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order; and single counts dangerous operation of a vehicle, impaired operation, obstructing a peace officer, possession of a weapon, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm known its possession is unauthorized, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition in a vehicle, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm obtained by crime, tampering with a serial number of a firearm, failure to comply with a probation order, and failure to comply with a condition of a release order.

Taypotat made a first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on these charges yesterday afternoon.
