Counterfeit bill exchange prompts investigation

A counterfeit $20 bill surfaced at a local business on Feb. 22 which prompted a report being passed on to the Estevan Police Service (EPS) to look into the incident.

In the meantime, police remind business owners and their employees to be continually careful when accepting currency from customers and to report any suspicious-looking bills to EPS.

A hit-and-run incident involving three vehicles in the 1800 block of First Street was being investigated by city police on Feb. 24. An older model Ford Explorer was observed leaving the area after colliding with two other vehicles.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the EPS at 634-4767.

That same day police responded to a domestic disturbance incident in the Hillside area of the city. Their investigation revealed that a mother and daughter disagreement over household rules had escalated, but with police intervention that matter was resolved and no further police involvement was required.

A 23-year-old male who passed out in the back seat of a taxi was arrested for being intoxicated in public on Feb. 26. He was lodged in cells and released when sober and is now facing the public intoxication charges.

A 45-year-old man who didn't take a taxi, was charged with impaired driving and driving while his blood/alcohol level was over. 08 per cent that same night. Police noted him leaving a local lounge in his vehicle and proceeded with the traffic stop and arrest that will now lead to an April 19 court appearance.

A woman reported that her purse had been stolen while she was in a local lounge on the night of Feb. 26. The matter is being looked into and police report they have a suspect.

A complaint regarding two suspicious people walking in the Hillside area was relayed to police on the night of Feb. 26. Police attended the scene, but did not locate anyone or any suspicious pattern of activity.

On Feb. 27, police arrested a 23-year-old man for uttering threats and for breaching a peace order plus public intoxication when members noted a disturbance in the parking lot of a local business.

Police investigation revealed the man was in breach of conditions that had been imposed on him by the Regina Police Service. He also had outstanding warrants against him. He now faces another court appearance for those two charges while the investigation into the threat incident continues.

Police were called to a local hotel on the night of Feb. 27 to remove an unwanted guest. The man was given a ride to a friend's residence for the remainder of the evening so no further police action was required.

A report of a dog biting a young person was fielded by EPS members on Feb. 28. The 12-year-old victim was walking her dog when another aggressive dog left its home yard and went after the victim's dog and as a result she was bitten during the incident. She was taken to hospital for possible treatment and released later while the aggressive dog was seized and quarantined while police continued their investigation. Charges are pending against the dog's owner.

On the night of Feb. 28, a 20-year-old Estevan woman attended the police service station to report an alleged assault so the matter was placed under investigation. Later that same evening, two men attended the police station to lodge a complaint of another man entering their residence and uttering threats against them. This matter was also placed under investigation.
