City police investigate B&E, thefts, accidents

During the past week the Weyburn Police Service received 136 calls for service, including thefts, accidents and impaired driving.

City police report the new four-way stop at the intersection of 16th St. and Highway 13 (First Avenue) has been working well. Motorists are encouraged to use caution at the intersection as old habits are sometimes hard to change.

Police provided assistance to help locate a missing patient from Tatagwa View on Sunday.

On Aug. 8, a customer renting a room at the Travelodge failed to pay for his room before leaving. The matter is still under investigation.

A break and enter was investigated on the 900 block of Bison Avenue on Aug. 8. The person responsible was still in the house. A man was charged with break and enter as well as mischief.

Heavy rainfall caused flooding in several areas of the city on Friday. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution when these conditions develop. Vehicles traveling too fast in flooded areas can cause further damage to businesses and houses located along the streets.

A theft of an electric fuel pump from a slip tank was reported on Aug. 9. The vehicle was parked on the Barber Motors lot overnight.

Several tools were stolen from a residence on the 300 block of Sixth Ave. SE.

A vehicle being driven erratically was southbound on 16th street on Aug. 8. The driver lost control and the vehicle overturned on the railroad tracks just prior to entering Highway 39. The driver and his passenger then fled from the scene of the accident on foot. Incoming trains had to be alerted. The two males were apprehended a short time later by police.

The driver was charged with impaired driving. The passenger had to receive medical treatment for minor injuries.

A car parked near East Avenue had two of its tires slashed. Then two days later someone slashed another tire on the car when it was located on Coteau Avenue.

An accident between a motor vehicle and a motorcycle happened at the intersection of Souris Avenue and Second Street on Aug. 8. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital treated and released a short time later. The driver of the motor vehicle was charged for failing to yield.

A man was charged for breaching his conditional sentence order. As a result of the breach he was taken into custody.

An allegation of sexual assault against two children was reported. The matter is still under investigation.

Two males were fighting in a residence on the 10 block of Sixth Street. One was arrested and held overnight. The matter was resolved without charges.

Several ATVs were reported being operated in the Weyburn Trailer court on Aug. 10. Citizens are reminded it is illegal for these vehicles to be operated in the city.

A motor vehicle accident occurred on the 1100 block of Coteau Avenue on Aug. 11. The driver of the vehicle responsible was following too close and rear-ended the vehicle in front of him. Charges were laid.

Another accident was attended at the intersection of Souris Avenue and Second Street. It involved a motor vehicle colliding with a motorcycle. The driver of the motor vehicle was charged for failing to yield.

Two young men were involved in a physical altercation at the Weyburn Leisure Centre, and one had his jaw broke. Charges were laid for assault causing bodily harm.

A motorist was charged for driving without due care and attention on Friday. He was operating his vehicle erratically in the Ash Drive area.

Several mail boxes continue to be overturned by inconsiderate pedestrians. This causes problems for Canada Post. Mail in the boxes could be damaged. Other pedestrians and young cyclists could receive injuries when these overturned boxes are not upright and located properly. Citizens are encouraged to report these incidents.

There was a minor disturbance at the King George Hotel on Saturday. One male was arrested and placed in cells till sober.
