Charges laid against combatants

No fewer than four motor vehicle accidents absorbed a lot of Estevan Police Service (EPS) members' time during the day shift of Dec. 14. One incident involved a female pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Spruce Drive and King Street.

No details were revealed as to the extent of the injuries suffered by the pedestrian or whether charges are being laid.
One 20-year-old man from Regina was charged with being in possession of a controlled substance following a complaint coming from a city motel.

Police arrested and lodged two men in police cells following a fight that erupted in the middle of King Street near Bannatyne Avenue on the night of Dec. 14. The two Alberta men were charged under the local fighting bylaw.

A report of several fights breaking out at a local establishment led to police response on the night of Dec. 17. That resulted in several people being arrested and lodged in cells until sober. The incidents remain under investigation.
Several noisy party complaints were also handled by EPS members that same night. Police warned the homeowners in each instance and no charges were laid.

Police checked an Alberta licensed vehicle on the city's north side on the night of Dec. 14, and discovered a quantity of cocaine during the search. The driver was charged with possession of a controlled substance and now has a February court date.

During the course of the evening, several other vehicles were checked for impaired drivers and as a result a number of 24-hour suspensions were issued along with one charge for operating an unregistered vehicle.

On the night of Dec. 18, police responded to a report of an erratic driver on the east side of the city. The vehicle was located and the driver was noted to be intoxicated, so the 43-year-old Bienfait man was charged accordingly and will appear in court in February.

As a result of some routine vehicle checks, a 36-year-old Estevan man was arrested for impaired driving and will appear in court in February as well.

A report of several patrons being engaged in a fight at a local lounge led to police response on the night of Dec. 18. A number of Estevan men were arrested and lodged in cells until sober and charges are pending.
