An audio system ripped out of a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Willow Bay netted a 21-year-old man and his 19-year-old female accomplice a charge of theft of goods valued at under $5,000 and an additional charge of being intoxicated in public following an incident recorded by Estevan Police Service (EPS) personnel on the night of Jan. 10 and early morning hours of Jan. 11.

The audio system was taken from the unlocked vehicle and was being hidden temporarily in the backyard of a residence across the street from where the vehicle was parked. The neighbours found the audio equipment and turned it over to police who were investigating the theft and subsequent activities of the two subjects.

The male was also charged for being in breach of the conditions of his release for an offence he was charged with last year in Saskatoon.

On that same night, two men were arrested for being intoxicated in public and also charged for fighting under the local fighting bylaw. The charges came following an incident at a lounge in the central part of the city.

On the night of Jan. 12, EPS members arrested three men for public intoxication and one of them was charged with obstructing a peace officer.

Three people were charged for impaired driving and driving while their blood-alcohol content was over .08 per cent on the night of Jan. 12 and/or early morning hours of Jan. 13.

Extremely icy road conditions led to a number of collisions on city streets on the night of Jan. 13. Fortunately none of the incidents resulted in major injuries.

Police were also called to a residence on the north side of the city on the night of Jan. 13 in response to a noise complaint. The property owners were warned about the City's bylaw concerning noise and the matter was resolved.

A report of a fight in progress near a convenience store resulted in police intervention when the participants were identified, separated and sent in different directions.

A break and enter incident was reported to police on the night of Jan. 13. The residential break, enter and theft investigation was aided by witnesses and evidence recovered at the scene which led police to quickly identify a male suspect who was located a short time later in the city with the stolen property still in his possession. The stolen property was returned to the owners and the man taken into custody.

A 20-year-old man was charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08 when he was stopped by police who observed his erratic driving pattern on the night of Jan. 13. He now has a February court date.

While some EPS members were handling the impaired driver incident, others were called to a domestic disturbance which resulted in injuries being suffered by both parties. One of the people involved in the incident left the residence for the evening.

EPS members are also asking for the assistance of the public in their attempt to investigate a hit-and-run incident that occurred on the night of Jan. 13 at the intersection of 18th Avenue and First Street. So far police have determined that a truck slid on ice and collided with a tree, but the driver of the vehicle failed to remain at the scene of the collision. Police have evidence from the scene that indicates the driver sustained injuries as a result of the crash. They do not know the extent of the injuries and they wish to contact the driver. They are hoping that the individual involved or witnesses will come forward to report what they know about the collision so they can close the file on the incident.
