Estevan Police Service (EPS) has now laid a charge against an 18-year-old female as a result of a bomb threat received at the Estevan Comprehensive School on December 2 of last year.
The girl was 17 at the time so the charges have been laid under the Young Offenders stipulations which prevent the publishing of the accused's name.
On March 25, EPS members were asked to investigate another school incident. A rock had been tossed through a window of a school in the southeast area of the city. This matter remains under investigation.
On March 25, police were called to the central business district to follow up on a report of a break-in at a shed located behind the business. A large quantity of empty bottles had been removed and damage had been done to the door and frame.
A theft from a vehicle was also being investigated around the same time. This incident that occurred on the city's east side resulted in a number of items being lifted from the vehicle after the thief had gained entry by breaking a window.
A traffic accident in the city's north central area on March 27 was being investigated by EPS personnel. The report indicates that the vehicle's brakes failed which resulted in the vehicle advancing through a stop sign and into a parking lot where it struck two trucks that were parked there. There were two people standing near the trucks at the time of the incident and one was slightly injured as a result of the event. He was transported to hospital for treatment for the injuries and the man driving the vehicle was subsequently charged with driving without an appropriate/valid driver's licence.
On the night of March 28, EPS members responded to a call regarding a fire that had been started in the valley area north of Fourth Street near 14th Avenue. Estevan Fire Rescue responded as well and the fire was extinguished but two suspects were seen in the area just before the fire was spotted so police have set up an investigation into the incident.
A call from a gas station in the central part of the city attracted police attention when it was learned that a person had filled their vehicle with gas and then left without paying.
The operation of a dirt bike and quad in the central part of the city was looked into by police on March 28. The public is reminded that it is against the law to operate either of these types of vehicles within city limits.
A vehicle that had been spray painted by vandals was the subject of a police investigation that began March 28. The incident took place in the city's north central area.
Two separate disturbances in the central part of the city grabbed EPS members' attention March 28. In both cases, the disputes were resolved with no further disruptions.
A call regarding an assault in progress drew EPS members to the south side of Estevan on the night of March 28. Upon arrival, police determined that there had been no assault and the dispute was resolved peacefully without incident.
A 27-year-old woman was stopped for a police check on the night of March 28. She was subsequently transported to police cells where she was charged for being impaired and is slated for a court appearance May 7.
A 72-year-old Estevan man was stopped by police that same night and charged with impaired driving. He too, has a May 7 court date.
That same evening, a 56-year-old Estevan man was found in an intoxicated state in the central part of the city so he was taken to the police cells where he was lodged until sober.
On March 30, EPS members, in co-operation with the SGI Overdrive programmers, conducted a community blitz that involved additional police personnel who were deployed to check vehicles for impaired drivers. Three of the drivers checked were subjected to a further investigation that resulted in three impaired driving charges. Two more were charged with failing to provide breath samples and two were held in cells until sober. All those charged will be appearing in court later this month.
A 26-year-old Moose Jaw man was arrested for being intoxicated in public and causing a disturbance at a local business on the night of March 30. He was lodged in cells and faces a public intoxication charge when he appears in court later this month.
During the course of the evening of March 30, several more charges were laid by EPS members including public intoxication, open alcohol in public places, urinating in public, open alcohol in a vehicle and speeding.
A 30-year-old Estevan man was charged with theft on March 31 after he was observed taking items from a local business. Staff members at the business saw the man removing the items from a case and then walking out of the store without paying. Police managed to locate the subject a short distance from the scene and arrested him. He now has a May court date.
A man who had been assaulted outside a local business was the subject of police attention on March 31. The 40-year-old had been knocked unconscious as a result of the assault. Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene and transported the Estevan resident to hospital where he was treated and held overnight for observation before being released. The police investigation into the incident remains open.
EPS members report that several people were arrested for being intoxicated in public on the night of March 31 and all were lodged in cells until regaining sobriety.
On the night of April 1, police were alerted to a break and enter that was in progress. When they arrived, they collared a 23-year-old Regina man who was charged with break and enter after being taken into custody. He is scheduled for a court appearance later this month.
A report of mischief incidents that were underway at a local school on April 1 drew police to the location of the event. When police arrived, they discovered someone had spray painted graffiti on the facility. They conducted a search of the area and uncovered six young people at another school engaged in a similar activity so they were taken into custody and several charges were laid against each of them. They were not only charged for damages inflicted on the two schools but for damages resulting from incidents that had occurred earlier in the week. All six young people will be appearing in court near the end of this month to answer to the various charges.
On the night of April 2, police were called to a south side residence on two separate occasions. On their second visit, a 34-year-old Estevan man was arrested for breaching the conditions of an undertaking that prohibited him from consuming alcohol and required him to keep the peace and retain good behaviour.
The man was released after gaining sobriety and now has a May 7 court date.
