Better Together Tuesdays to be observed in Assiniboia

The Town of Assiniboia declares Better Together Tuesdays from May 24 to December 27, to celebrate another Better Together Year.

ASSINIBOIA - The Town of Assiniboia Council met for a regular meeting on June 14.

Attending the meeting were Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Councillors Robert Ellert, Patrick Grondin, Graham Harvey, Kent Fettes, Peter Kordus, and Renee Clermont; CAO Clint Mauthe; and Kerri Martin, director of corporate services. A public acknowledgement was given to Assiniboia Times for attending the meeting.

The agenda was adopted, with additions regarding the regional park and fairgrounds added. Moved by Ellert/Fettes.

The minutes were approved and adopted from last meeting of May 24. Moved by Kordus/Harvey.

The minutes of the finance and admin committee meeting of April 18, and the infrastructure, facilities and open spaces meetings of March 7 and May 8, were approved and adopted. Moved by Grondin/Fettes. The fire report was accepted and adopted as read. Moved by Fettes/ Clermont.

Proclamation: Whereas: The Better Together Project of Assiniboia is an initiative where good things happen when people come together, the town of Assiniboia will once again declare Tuesdays from May 24 to December 27, 2022 as another Better Together year.

Correspondence was received and adopted as presented from  SEDA; the ATAP report (water) and regarding June Recreation and Parks Month. Moved by Kordus/Grondin.

Reports given by CAO Clint Mauthe were accepted and approved as read. It was a very busy month in Assiniboia. He reported four water main breaks, line painting underway in town, and further concrete work being done.

A list of pail accounts was accepted. The May Water report noted that the water level in Willows is up.  Reports stated that water is coming in at a rate of 11L per second to the treatment plant. Restrictions put in place to assure water levels remain adequate. Moved by Fettes/ Kordus.

New Business/ Request for Decisions

Urban Rep for SCTPC – Council appointed Clint Mauthe to the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Central Transportation Planning Committee as Division 2 Urban rep.

Fees and Charges Amendment: first, second, third and final readings were given to Bylaw 02/15 enacting the bylaw with amended schedule for the Town  of Assiniboia.

First, second, third and final readings were given for the Property Tax Incentives and Penalties Bylaw.

The mayor and councillors gave council presentations as to their activities in and around the community. 

Council entered a closed session at 7:36 p.m., and exited at 8:40 p.m.

Council approved the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association project to move the outdoor rink to 123 Second Avenue West, formerly known as the Bowling Alley, at a tentative future date. The ACIA will be accountable for the cost of demolition of the building as well as asbestos testing/removal if required. Moved by Ellert/ Fettes.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:42 p.m. The next meeting for Town Council is scheduled for Monday, June 27, at 6:30 p.m.
