Barber Motors has reclaimed its title as winner of the Saskatchewan Auto Dealers Association's (SADA) blood donor challenge. The Weyburn dealership came in first place over ten other participating car dealerships from across the province to drive away with the 2011 victory, marking its second win in the past three years.

Bennett Dunlop Ford of Regina, who won the challenge in 2010, took a close second in this year's race for blood donations.

"The members of SADA support and encourage participation from their staff in the Canadian Blood Services and SADA's 'Partners for Life' program," said Susan Buckle, Executive Director of SADA. "With the large number of collective employees within our provincial membership base, we all know of someone who has had the need for blood, in whole or part."

The annual event challenges management and staff of SADA members across Saskatchewan to donate blood during the month of February and August, times when the need for blood is very high.

"Community involvement is important to our members and we are very pleased and proud to be able to support our communities through activities such as blood donation," adds Buckle. "Such a simple, selfless act is often the most meaningful. When one can affect another human being's life in such a positive way with so little input, it makes the act of donating blood all that more significant."

SADA participants combined to donate 110 units of blood through the challenge this year.

"To put that number into perspective, those donations are enough to help 22 patients with internal bleeding, treat 13 leukemia patients or rescue two car accident victims," says James Topinka, Development Coordinator for the Canadian Blood Services. "By rallying together, these dealerships have offered a lifeline to many patients in need of blood. We continue to be extremely grateful to the Saskatchewan Auto Dealers Association for its strong support of the SADA Challenge."
