A man who is alleged to have killed his father was back in Estevan provincial court on Monday.
Kelvin Lyle Myers was charged with second degree murder following the alleged incident on March 3. He was scheduled to attend a show-cause hearing on Monday, but the matter was adjourned to April 2, and he was remanded in custody until then.
In other court proceedings, a preliminary inquiry was scheduled for Germaine Akachuk, who is charged with aggravated assault. Akachuk is alleged to have stabbed a man last September. The matter did not go forward and was adjourned to today's proceedings in Carlyle.
Not guilty pleas were entered on Monday for Heath Greening, charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and committing mischief to property. The Crown is proceeding by indictment and Greening elected the trial to be heard at the provincial court level. The trial was scheduled for May 8.
Also in custody on Monday was Dallas Hala who is charged with two separate impaired driving offences, as well as three counts of driving while disqualified. He consented to being remanded in custody until late April when electronic monitoring can be set up as a condition of his release.
Two impaired driving convictions were dealt with for individuals who entered guilty pleas. The circumstances of one revealed that the guilty party offered the arresting officer all the money in his pocket to make the charges go away. The Crown prosecutor said the individual was warned by the officer, and no extra charges were laid.
